December 7, 2023: The bill passed unanimously out of committee and is now in front of the full House of Representatives.

House sponsors: Rep. Gus Bilirakus (R-FL) & Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)

Purpose: This bill supported by a host of advocacy organizations and addresses various practices in the secondary market 

Ticket Act - Senate

July 27, 2023: Passed to the full Senate. but the amendment concerning speculative tickets was removed.

Fans First Act

Senate sponsors: Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) & Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

Co-sponsors: Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Peter Welch (D-VT).  

Purpose: price transparency, strengthen Bots Act, stop speculative tickets (selling tickets they don't have), refunds for cancelled shows, price gouging 

BOSS & SWIFT Act

Senate sponsors: Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Sen. Mazie Hirono(D-HI), & Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-MA)

House sponsors: Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) & Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ)  

Purpose: upfront pricing, changing price during transaction, clearly disclose refund policies, disclose total cost & number of tickets being sold 7 days in advance.

Unlock Ticketing Markets Act

Sponsors: Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) & Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)

Purpose: Addressing Live Nation's monopoly, improve competitive marketplace, increase FTC enforcement power to prevent exclusive multiyear contracts

Stopping Grinch Bots Act 

Senate: Sponsors: Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM)

House: Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY)

Purpose: addressing bots in the online retail market used by resellers, consumer protection

Federal Investigations

Department of Justice

The DOJ investigation was announced in late 2022 and is ongoing.

January 2024: The DOJ demanded documents from the city of Irvine, CA. This request concerns a failed $100 million venue that Live Nation would have had exclusive rights to operate for 50 years.

Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations

This investigation was announced in November 2023 and at that same time the Senate announced they were issuing a subpoena for Live Nation to turnover documents.
